Ondo to reform technical education

Ondo State Governornment has stressed its determination to reposition technical education in the state, noting its critical role in advancing the state’s economy.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwaa made the remarks on Friday during an inspection tour of some state-owned technical colleges.

Speaking through is Senior Special Assistant on Technical and Vocational Education, Mr. Tayo Oluyi, Aiyedatiwa said his administration is determined to strengthen technical education, describing the sector as a cornerstone of workforce development in Ondo State.

According to him, the inspection aimed at assessing teaching and learning conditions, listening to concerns from principals, teachers, and students, and aligning the colleges with the administration’s strategic vision for technical education.

His words, “Our administration remains deeply committed to uplifting technical and vocational education in the state and these institutions are critical to driving innovation, economic productivity and sustainable employment for youths.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa administration recognises the pivotal role that technical and vocational education plays in building a competitive and self-reliant workforce.

“We are here to listen, to understand the realities on the ground, and to ensure that interventions are properly aligned with the needs of our teachers, principals and students,” he noted.

He said ongoing rehabilitation of dilapidated structures across the technical colleges will be completed with renewed vigour, giving the schools a facelift that reflects the government’s renewed interest in improving learning environments.

“We are moving swiftly to ensure that all ongoing renovations are completed to modern standards. Our students deserve safe, conducive and inspiring learning spaces.

“A strong technical education system is not an option; it is a necessity. It equips our youths with practical skills that empower them to create jobs, support industries and drive economic growth,” he stressed.

Some of the institutions visited include Government Technical College, Owo (Owo LGA); Government Technical College, Okitipupa (Okitipupa LGA); Government Technical College, Idanre (Idanre LGA); Government Technical College, Oka-Akoko (Akoko North West LGA); and Federal Science Technical College, Ikare-Akoko (Akoko North West LGA).
