Ondo State Government his recommited itself to eliminating revenue leakages within the state’s education sector.

Primarily, it targets unregistered private schools, aiming to ensure they comply with state regulations and contribute appropriately to government coffers by registering their schools with the state Ministry of Education

Education, Science, and Technology commissioner, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, reaffirmed this during a courtesy visit by Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan, the Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS).

Ajibefun highlighted the significant issue of unregistered private schools in Ondo State which outnumbers registered ones.

He noted that the amount paid by these schools are abysmally low, creating a disincentive for proper registration.

The commissioner therefore urged all unregistered private school owners to register with the state government immediately, emphasising that the Ministry of Education is prepared to block all leakages.

He assured of the Ministry’s full cooperation with ODIRS to make life easier for the people, aligning with the current administration’s policy thrust.

Ajibefun also affirmed the Ministry’s ongoing partnership with ODIRS and expressed readiness to strengthen the relationship, requesting additional support for the Ministry’s revenue-generating department.

He reiterated his administration’s focus on identifying new avenues to generate more funding to government coffers

In his speech, Rojugbokan, acknowledged the Ministry of Education as a crucial partner in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), seeking its maximum cooperation to boost the state’s IGR.

He stressed that the government requires funds for essential infrastructural development in schools and to provide quality leadership, stating, “We are ready to plough back to education everywhere in the state.”
