Ondo state chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP,  has advised its members in the state to disregard a circular being circulated in some local government areas of the state claiming that the state Congress of the party would hold on Friday 1st April and Saturday 2nd April 2022.

In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Remi Olayiwola, on Friday, the party stated that no such Congress was approved by the state executive Committee.

Besides, Olayiwola said that holding any Congress when judgement in a legal tussle between the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party and the Olu Agunloye faction of the party is still being awaited at the Federal High Court in Akure, would amount to contempt of court which the judiciary seriously frown at.

In addition, the SDP said that the Olu Agunloye faction has no locus standi to organise or conduct any Congress for the party because he “was never elected into any office at any convention of the SDP.”

In the statement, Olayiwola said that “Agunloye has been making efforts to make his personal friends who are never members of the SDP the key officers of the party and laying off valuable and loyal members of the party.

“This is being done in order to make maximum gains from the series of programmes lined up on the way to the 2023 Presidential election.”

While calling on Dr Agunloye to come forward to render the accounts of the governorship election that he contested in which he was woefully defeated, the SDP said that “those aspiring to political offices on the platform of the party should be careful in dealing with Agunloye as he has no electoral values anywhere.”
