Ondo State Government has reacommitted itself to improving the welfare of public secondary school teachers, promising better working conditions that will create an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning across the state.
The Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Dr. Oluwadaisi Oke, stated this while addressing principals of public secondary schools in Akure.
In a statement issued by Goodluck Akinyomi, Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, TESCOM, Oke noted that the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has continued to put smiles on the faces of public secondary school teachers since he assumed office.
She urged school managers and teachers to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by being proactive in the discharge of their duties.
Calling for maximum cooperation from the principals, she assured teachers of improved living and working conditions in the service.
She pledged that the newly inaugurated board of the commission, under her leadership, would work to raise teaching and learning standards through the effective implementation of government policies, supported by regular supervision and monitoring of academic activities in public secondary schools across the state.
Also, she warned teachers against indolence and misconduct that could undermine academic standards in their schools.
Oke further stated that the new board would prioritise the timely processing of documents for retiring public secondary school staff to ensure they begin receiving their pensions without delay. She cautioned teachers against engaging contractors who, she said, have been exploiting retirees under the guise of assisting with the processing of retirement papers.
According to her, the commission would explore all available resources to achieve its objectives, adding that Board members are committed to maintaining an open-door policy and addressing genuine complaints.
The Administrative Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Morayo Bayo-Philip, who welcomed the chairman and full-time Board members to the Commission, highlighted several measures already put in place by the government to enhance the welfare of public secondary school teachers in the state.
It will be recalled that Governor Aiyedatiwa recently appointed Mrs. Oluwadaisi Oke (Chairman); Ajani Oladipo; Mrs. Titilayo Fayoriju; Mrs. Solape Aderemi, and Alhaji Usman Isiaka as full-time Board members of TESCOM, marking the first time in ten years that a full board would be constituted to run the affairs of the commission.
