Any policeman who undermines the security of Ondo State by facilitating the entrance of people into the state will be dealt with, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie has vowed.
He gave the warning and ordered the immediate arrest of security men who manned the entrance point where the policeman who tested positive to COVID-19 went through.
Adie who gave the directive in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro said those who facilitated the illegal entry would be punished. He said the world presently seems to be at a crossroad with itself, the Nigeria Police Force still remains the last hope of all Nigerians for the protection of lives and property.
“The police boss further said the only way police officers would show professionalism in their calling at this peak period in the demand of their services is by exhibiting a high sense of commitment and dedication to duty.
And therefore he has directed that they should be at alert at all time to ensure crimes and criminality in the Command is thoroughly decimated.
It would be recalled that since the arrival of COVID19 pandemic on the Nigerian soil, the Nigeria Police Force have had more than enough in the discharge of their functions to the general public, with more people demanding more increase in their services to contain the spread of the deadly Corona virus.
CP Adie said he was particularly disturbed to notice that a Benue State bound commuter bus which was carrying about 20 passengers from Lagos was seen in Akure, having seriously warned his men at all entering points into Ondo State to ensure no entry of any kind, except those considered to be on essential services.
He however said he has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to bring to book all those involved in the coverage of the routes where the bus passed through until it was apprehended in Akure.
Promising to deal decisively with those found culpable in the passage of the Benue bound bus into Akure, CP Adie said, though border points into Ondo State are manned by a combination of all security agencies in the State.
“It is considered the prime duty of the Nigeria Police who by their stand, is the first on the frontline of internal security to live up to their bidding by sincerely performing their tasks at this crucial moment without any blemish.
According to him, “since the State government announced the first index case, I completely placed my Command on a new direction of correctness, sweeping away those with timid and unprofessional attitudes that may jeopardize the directives of government, and I can be bold to say that we are totally keeping with the tenets of professional policing which is why the Command is working at an incredible and rapid rate in order to cover all entry points into Ondo State”, he stated.
Justifying why Ondo State, during his period has remained the State with the safest crime rate in the country, CP Adie said, “Proper and effective policing is like understanding the script of a drama, the first step in this process is understanding the reasons for what you are doing.
According to him, effective and resounding policing strategy is a process of self-creation, being aware that you are responsible for the protection of lives and the property of all, and the ability to control your emotions, even when they are on hyper-temptations.
He further said, in this hard and tempting period of our lifetime, no police officer worth his salt should be found engaged in any act inimical to the reason for policing.
