Ondo police arrest mother of crime suspect for keeping son’s proceeds from evil, 13 others

The police in Ondo State have arrested the mother of a crime suspect who was allegedly aware of her child’s profession and helps keep the son’s proceeds from the criminal act.

Also arrested are 13 others including five suspected cultists, four robbery and four burglary suspects.

These were contained in a statement by police spokeswoman in the state, SP Funmilayo Odunlami.

According to the statement: “On the 6th of June, 2022, at about 0100hrs, a complaint of armed robbery was lodged at Idanre Police Divisional Headquarters.

“The victim stated that at about 1:00am, while he was asleep with his wife, a man gained entrance into his house unlawfully, flashed torchlight at him and his wife and also pointed a cut to size single barrel gun at them while demanding for cash.

“He stated further that, his wife brought out the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only (250,000.00) from their wardrobe and handed it over to the armed robber. As the suspect one … ‘m’ was trying to rape his wife, he dropped his gun and the victim was able to overpower the thief while his wife called on their neighbors to help with his arrest.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of one … ‘m’ and the mother of … who was aware of her child’s profession and helps keep the son’s proceeds from the criminal act.

“Items recovered were: (i) Two Motorcycles; (ii) A cut to size locally made barrel gun; (iii) A Plasma TV.

“The suspects confessed to be serial robbers who have robbed many houses in Idanre and it’s environs.

“They will soon have their day in court.”

On the robbery suspects, Odunlami said: “On the 26th January, 2022 at about 2000hrs, One … ‘m’ , aged 20 years and two others blocked the road along Ala area and snatched a Honda Motorcycle from the owner.

“Five months later, the brother of the complaints saw three young men fighting over a motorcycle and observed that it was similar to his brother’s stolen motorcycle and informed his brother.

“Based on the information, the case was reported at the police station and one …, ‘ m’ aged 18 years was arrested and a search was conducted in his house and another Boxer Motorcycle was recovered in his compound.
He confessed to have stolen the motorcycle at a farm in Gbalegi Camp on the 9th June, 2022.

“Items recovered were: (i) Two Motorcycles; (ii) One MP3 Radio; (iii) Cutlass.

“Suspects will soon be arraigned in court while effort is on to arrest the third person who is at large.”

Of the burglary and stealing suspects, she said: “On the 21st of June, 2022, at about 0700hrs, the Special Anti-Cultism Squad had a tip off that a bus was conveying stolen Lister Generators from Akure to Ilesha, Osun State.

“Personnel attached to the squad swung into action, trailed the suspected vehicle and was able to arrest one …, ‘m’ and two others with the vehicle and the two suspected stolen Lister Generators.

“One of the suspect confessed to have been the one who stole it and also employed the services of professional carriers to help him remove it from the workshop he stole it from.

“They will soon be charged to court.”

The statement added: “In the same vein, a complaint of incessant Burglary and Stealing at a Shopping Complex at Iju area was lodged at the station with recharge cards and mobile phones worth Millions of Naira being carted away.

“Through intelligence gathering, the police arrested one … ‘m’ Aged 28.

“During interrogation he confessed to the commission of the crime and stated that he burgled the complex twice in company of a friend who is currently serving a jail term at the correctional center. He claimed it was his friend that sold all the stolen items.

Suspect will be charged to court soon.”

Of the suspected cultists, she said: “On 14th June, 2022, at about 0940hrs an information was received from a complainant at the Special Anti-Cultism Squad that on 2nd June, 2022, young boys suspected to be members of a secret society attacked him and other members of his community and that the attackers informed him that they were paid to carry out the attack on him.”

Four suspects aged between 15 and 19 were arrested, who would be charged to court.

Mrs Odunlami gavethe summary of the 14 arrests as follows: (i) Armed Robbery – 2; (ii) Robbery – 3; (iii) Burglary/Stealing – 4; and (iv) Cultists – 5.

Items recovered were: (i) Three Motorcycles; (ii) A cut to size locally made barrel gun; (iii) Two Lister Generator; (iv) One plasma TV; (v) One Mp3 Radio; and (vi) A Cutlass.
