Ondo PDP commiserates with Ikare rainstorm victims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter has commiserated with the families of the victims of the rainstorms that ravaged Ikare Akoko last Sunday.

It conveyed this in a statement by its spokesman in the state, Mr Kennedy Ikantu Peretei.

Three persons reportedly died in the disaster in which not less than 150 houses had their roofs completely blown off, while others collapsed under the torrential rainfall. Even the palaces of Olukare of Ikare and the Owa-Ale of Ikare were not spared. .

The party appealed to the Ondo State Government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) to immediately rise to the occasion and provide succour for the victims.

Also, in view of the extent of the damage, it said that a panel of enquiry should be set up “to unravel the major cause of this kind of calamity, with a view to averting a repeat of such occurrence in future.”

The party said: “The rainstorms that ravaged Ikare-Akoko town of Ondo State on Sunday this week has left a very sour taste in our mouths.”

According to the statement: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter commiserates with the families of the victims as well as families of those who paid the supreme price as a result of this unfortunate event.

“Our party calls on the Ondo State Government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) to immediately rise to the occasion and provide succour for the victims.

“Owing to the extent of the damage, a panel of enquiry should also be set up to unravel the major cause of this kind of calamity, with a view to averting a repeat of such occurrence in future.”
