The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council, has raised a committee to conduct election into its various offices.
This was in a statement by the union’s election committee, NUJECO chairman, Ayo Falana, and secretary, Augustine Okinedo.
According to the statement:
“1. Elections will be held into the various offices in the union on April 8th, 2025
– 2. Offices to be contested for are: CHAIRMAN, VICE CHAIRMAN,.
SECRETARY, ASSISTANT SECRETARY, TREASURER, FINANCIAL SECRETARY and INTERNAL AUDITOR.:
3. Obtaining of forms will be between March, 6th and 12th March, 2025, Venue is the NUJ Press Centre and this signals the commencement of campaigns.
4. Chairmanship position will go for 60000 naira, vice chairman and Secretary is 50000 naira while other offices cost 40000 naira each.

6. The Electoral Committee will monitor campaigns to ensure that they are devoid of attacks on personalities or the use of vulgar language; And any contestant who runs foul will be sanctioned.
7. COMPLETED FORM MUST BE RETURNED to the Credentials Committee not later than Friday 14th, March, 2025 .
8. No member of the union has the right to nominate or sponsor more than one contestant.
9. Members or Contestants are advised to READ THOROUGHLY the NUJ CONSTITUTION before obtaining Nomination Form, to know highlighted conditions for the Union’s election.
10. To Qualify to Contest :
* Aspirants Must be at least SEVEN YEARS in active journalism in line with the Constitution (see Article 6).
* Aspirants MUST have been an officer at the chapel level.
* Aspirants MUST have attended not less than 50% of meetings/congresses held from April 2022 to March 2025 in line with Article 6 (7f) of the constitution.
* Aspirants MUST be Financial Members in line with Article 4 (1a) and Article 6 (7e) of the Constitution (Aspirants must attach evidence of payment payslip/receipt of Check off due payment).
* Aspirants MUST not hold office in other professional bodies (see Article 6 (7f).
* Aspirants MUST ensure that their Nominators/sponsors are ACTIVE and FINANCIAL members of the union.
* Aspirants MUST comply with Article 6 (11) which states categories of members who are ELIGIBLE to contest the election.
11.Names of contestants are to be displayed by March 17th, 2025.”
12. Claims and Objections MUST be filed between March 17th and 18th, 2025
13. Names of PROVISIONALLY CLEARED candidates will be displayed on April 4, 2025
14. Voters’ Register will be displayed before election day.
15. Manifestos will hold a day before election at NUJ Press Centre.
16. The Credentials Committee SHALL disqualify any candidate found to have violated any provision of the NUJ Constitution concerning the election
17. Election is by secret ballot and results announced by the Returning Officer who will be a National Officer of the union (See Article 6 (6) of the Constitution).
Each Chapel should submit list of members ( which. must be duly signed by chapel Chairman and Secretary) to the Credential committee on or before March 15th, 2025.”
