Ondo State Police Command has clarified that a 35-year-old man identified as Olorunfemi Tope, who was killed on Monday in a mob attack through the jungle justice at Ijoka Area of Akure, the state capital, was not an internet fraudster, contrary to claims and reports.

Making the clarification, the police spokeswoman in the state, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, said: “No one can confirm if the young man in question is an internet fraudster.

“There was an accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist, and rather than people around to help, some resolved to jungle justice by killing the young man who drove the vehicle and set the car ablaze.

“But for the quick intervention of the police, his parents too would have been killed.

“In all, two people were confirmed dead while those injured in the accident are currently in the hospital.”

She said that the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to her, the deceased Tope was killed after his vehicle allegedly killed two persons and injured six others in a road accident in the morning.

He was reportedly driving a Toyota Camry car along the road and suddenly his car skidded off its lane to crush the victims who were on commercial motorcycles also known as okada.

Syympathisers who rushed to the scene to rescue the driver, reportedly found some alleged fetish items inside the vehicle, raising suspension that the driver was a ‘Yahoo boy’.

Angered by what they reportedly saw in the car, they allegedly descended on the driver and beat him to a coma, who died in the process.

They also set the deceased’s car ablaze.
