A leading aspirant in the forthcoming local government election in Ondo State, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, after due consultations with his constituents, has rejected the purported imposition of Mr. Igbekele Akinrinwa as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Okitipupa Local Government.
Adesanya who is the incumbent Chairman of the Local Government, described the process that purportedly produced the said candidate as undemocratic, sinister and an attempt to sidetrack the popular will of the people.
This is contained in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Mr. Martins Fasusi in Okitipupa.
According to the statement: “The decision is unpopular, very undemocratic and unacceptable.
” We will not fold our arms while our democratic norms are being destroyed.
“The Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has said it unequivocally in many fora that there should be no imposition of candidate(s) at any level, in any form and for what so ever reason across the 18 Local Governments.
“Therefore, the popularity and acceptability of a candidate in an election should be tested at the polls not at the conference or board room.”
Adesanya appealed to his supporters to remain calm and unperturbed as they prepare vigorously for the primary election slated for February 4th, 2020.
Adesanya who is said to be the most popular candidate among the aspirants, urged his supporters to remain calm, not to be distracted and avoid any act of provocation that can jeopardise the democratic process of the Party’s primary election.
