Ondo election: Voting materials arrive

Ondo State governorship election is holding today, Saturday, 16 November 2024 as two million voters head to the ballot box.

The voters will decide who will be the next governor of Ondo State from among 17 candidates.

Voters

1.034 million males (50.36 per cent) and 1.019 million females (49.64 per cent) were registered for the election.

726,944 (35.41 per cent) of the registered voters are youths, while 721,982 (35.17 per cent) are middle-aged.

The candidates

*The candidates are the incumbent, Governor Aiyedatiwa of the APC; running mate is Olayide Adelami, a former clerk of the National Assembly.

*Chief Agboola Ajayi of the PDP (Ondo South) has a serving National Assembly member, Festus Akingbaso, as running mate.

*The former Secretary General of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, Chief Olusola Ebiseni is contesting on the platform of the Labour Party. His deputy is a former commissioner, Dayo Awude.

*Bamidele Akingboye is the candidate of the Social Democratic Party. His deputy, Mrs Susan Alabi, has since resigned and joined forces with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

*Olugbenga Edema is the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP and his deputy is Rotimi Aderemi.

Although the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, cleared 17 candidates for the Ondo governorship election, only the above five were “visible” during the campaigns.
