Akeredolu and his Kogi State counterpart, Bello at the rally
It was a home coming for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate and incumbent Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, as his re-election campaign rally was held in Owo town, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The ancient town stood still as most shop owners and other business outfits closed their shops to receive the Governor who is also from the town.
The people who trooped out defiled the heavy downpour which had started over 30 minutes before the arrival of the Governor and his entourage.
The Methodist Church grounds, along Fajuyi Road, venue of the campaign rally, witnessed impressive turn out of Owo sons and daughters as well as other residents of the town welcomed the Governor with pomp and pageantry.
Also at the rally were the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello; former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore; Ondo state chairman of the APC, Ade Adetimehin, and Minister of State for Niger-Delta Affairs, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, among other APC leaders.
Addressing the crowd, Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, urged all Kogi state indigenes living in Ondo state to deliver 100 per cent votes for Akeredolu at the Saturday’s governorship election.
On his part, Amosun, who commended Akeredolu for his laudable achievements since inception of his administration, urged the people of the state not to change the winning team.
He explained that Akeredolu has done well for the people of the state and should be re-elected for another term to further develop the state and the people.
The former Ogun State Governor specially applauded the people of Owo for their massive turn out not minding the heavy rain.
Addressing the people, Akeredolu said he was highly impressed by the large turnout despite the heavy downpour, adding that he was not expecting anything less from his hometown.
He particularly urged the people to come out en masse on Saturday to cast their votes for him to enable him consolidate the landmark achievements recorded in the past three and a half years in office.
He promised to do more for the town and the state at large if re-elected for a second term.
He disclosed that he was seeking re-election to ensure continuity of good governance in the state and bring about sustainable socioeconomic development of the Sunshine State.
The Governor was also at the Palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, to seek royal blessings.
Oba Ogunoye said he was proud of Akeredolu’s sterling performance with a promise that the people of Owo would reciprocate the good gesture by massively voting for him come Saturday governorship poll.
