Ondo State

Former Afenifere Secretary and the Labour Party (LP)candidate in the coming November 16 governorship election in Ondo state, Chief Sola Ebiseni, has promised free and qualitative education in primary and secondary schools if elected.

Apart from free education, he also promised free qualitative health services to the people of the state.

He promised these during his campaign in Akure, Akure local government area, as he blamed the poor state of education on the ruling All Progressives Congress-led government in the state, saying education has collapsed in the state.

Ebiseni vowed to revamp some of his party’s programmes  that had been abandoned by the present administration in the state.

He listed the programmes and projects to include free education which comprised mega schools, payment of WAEC fees for final year students, and provision of free buses for movement of students to and from schools throughout the state.

He also stated the LP provided free health services, including free delivery of women in the Mother and Child hospitals during the Labour Party government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko in which he was Commissioner with his running mate.

He said, “I will give free education like we had in the Labour Party government in the past. I was part of the last Labour Party government in the state with my deputy governorship candidate between 2009 and 2017.

“We had mother and child as part of our health programme, free education at primary and secondary levels and free bus shuttle for students, payment of WAEC fee and out tertiary institutions fee was heavily subsidised.

“We have let the people understand that we are socio welfarist political party and education is not only going to be free but it will be free and qualitative with ICT components and it will be compulsory, as no child of school age will be seen on the streets.”

Speaking on the general direction of the Labour Party government, Ebiseni promised to prioritise security by ensuring safe returns of farmers to their farms.

He said the state had comparative advantage in the abundance of coastal and forest resources including minerals dotting the state’s land scale which his government will tap into.
