Ondo CJ frees four inmates to mark legal year

Ondo State Chief Judge, Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, has freed four inmates from prison custody as part of activities to mark the forthcoming 2020 legal year.

The freed former inmates include two men and two women. They are Okeowo Samuel, aged 61; Nnabike John, 40; Eze Uchena, 45; and Deborah Onu, 19.

She released them unconditionally from prison custody on Tuesday during her visit to the Segede and Surulere Correctional Homes in Ondo Kingdom.

She said that their unconditional release was part of activities lined up for the legal year which would be marked next month.

The Chief Judge said that her visit was to de-congest the prisons and also to put things right to quicken the dispensation of justice.

The freed former inmates include two men and two women. They are
Okeowo Samuel, aged 61; Nmabike John, 40; Eze Uchena, 45; and Deborah Onu, 19.

Responding, Mrs Deborah Onu who was charged with child stealing and detained in prison since February, 2020, expressed joy and thanked the Chief Judge for the opportunity.

Mrs Onu who gave birth when she was in prison, said she has learnt many lessons as she described prison as a school where inmates learn how to be of good conduct.

However, she denied the offence leveled against her.

She urged the people of the kingdom and state at large to always work with clean hands and pure heart; and also pray to God for protection at all times.

Also speaking, Okeowo Samuel who was charged for having an unlawful carnal knowledge thanked the team and promised to be of good conduct henceforth.

Okeowo who was in prison for two years, six months and two days, denied the offence he was alleged to have committed.
