Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the deputy governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor, stepping in for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who is on medical leave.

It stated this on Tuesday after receiving a letter from Governor Akeredolu, notifying it about his going on medical leave for 21 working days to take care of his health.

According to the statement: “Ondo State House of Assembly has received the letter of medical leave from the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN CON.”

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, explained that the Governor had embarked on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad starting from the 7th of June, 2023, and lasting till the 6th of July, 2023.

The letter said the leave which commenced on the 7th of June extends to the 6th of July, 2023 due to the Public Holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (28th and 29th of June,2023).

The governor who had directed his deputy, Aiyedatiwa to act in his capacity while away has assured of his resumption on the 6th of July.

Oladiji described the governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law, wishing him a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.

Just last week, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had reportedly called on Akeredolu to hand over to Aiyedatiwa due to the former’s ill health so as to avert a constitutional crisis.

The SDP made this call in a statement signed by its state chairman, Stephen Adewale, who asked the governor to hand over to his deputy in an acting capacity until he is fit.
