Ondo state government has approved a new retirement age for all categories of staff in the state-owned tertiary institutions.
The state owned four tertiary institutions whose staff would enjoy under the new law, are Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA); Ondo state University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa; University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo; and the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).
In a letter addressed to all heads of the institutions, the Attorney General and state commissioner for Justice, Kola Olawoye SAN, said the new retirement age was approved by the State Executive Council Meeting held on Monday 6th May, 2019.
He disclosed that a new retirement age for Professors has been pegged at 70 years, while other academic staff will now retire at the 65.
The new retirement age for non-academic staff in all the institutions has also been fixed at 65.
The commissioner added that the new retirement age takes immediate effect.
The Chairman, Joint Action Committee of SSANU, NASU, NAAT in OSUSTECH, Comrade Temidayo Temola while commending the state government, described it as a welcome development.
He added that the new retirement age would reduce human flight from institutions in the state.
He noted that it would bring about stability on campus , saying ” there will not be open heaven litigation over retirement age.”
