– NUJ hails appointment
The Ondo State Government has appointed Sir Ademola Adetula as the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of the state owned Owena Press Limited, publishers of The Hope newspapers.
His appointment was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, Mr Segun Ajiboye.
According to the statement: “Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has approved the appointment of Sir Ademola Adetula as the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of Owena Press Limited, Publishers of The Hope.
Akeredolu expresses confidence in the ability of Adetula in providing the necessary editorial directions for the newspaper.
The governor congratulates Adetula on the appointment and wishes him well while discharging the responsibilities of the office.”
Reacting, the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, commended the governor for his choice whom it described as “a round peg in a round hole who had contributed his quota to the development of Journalism profession in the state and the country in general.”
In a statement by its Chairman, Mr James Sowole and Secretary, Mr Leke Adegbite, the union described Adetula as “a fine, cerebral, dutiful, experienced and quintessential journalist who is eminently qualified to head the state -owned media outfit.”
It expressed satisfaction with his choice “because of his background as a core Unionist and former leader in NUJ who will adequately protect interest of journalists in the organization.”
It said: “NUJ notes that the new Chairman’s past records of giant strides when he headed the same media outfit several years ago makes the Union to believe that he will reposition The Hope Newspaper to overcome challenges in the modern journalism industry.”
The union called on all the staff of the company to give their new chairman full support to enable him move the outfit to a greater height; while expressing confidence that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.
Adetula served as the Managing Director of the same outfit in the administration of the late Chief Adebayo Adefarati. He succeeds Mr Bode Betiku who left office in February last year.
The new chairman once served as Editor of The Hope.
