The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has announced the receipt of 50 buses and 40 tricycles donated by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu.
According to a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the donation is a significant gesture by the First Lady to her alma mater and reflects her commitment to improving student welfare, mobility, and overall well-being.
The University noted that the vehicles are expected to ease transportation challenges within and around the campus, thereby enhancing the daily movement of students and staff.
Management also expressed profound appreciation to the Ooni of Ife Oba, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for his pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of the buses and tricycles.
The institution described his continued support for education and student welfare as invaluable.
While the deployment and operation of the vehicles have commenced, the University appealed to students and members of the campus community to exercise patience with any initial operational challenges.
The statement explained that the transportation scheme is still evolving, with ongoing efforts focused on route optimisation, improved scheduling, and operational efficiency to ensure safety and maximum benefit for users.
The University assured students that concerns raised would be carefully reviewed and addressed, reaffirming its commitment to providing a modern and efficient transportation system in line with global standards
