The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, has read the riot act to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Ilutitun Branch, vowing to deal with anyone no matter how highly placed, who intends to truncate the existing peace in the Local Government Area.
He handed down the warning at a special meeting he held with the union leadership and it members in the branch on Saturday to avoid a probable breakdown of law and order among members of the union.
This was contained in a statement by the chairman’s Press Officer, Mr Martins Fasusi.
The interactive meeting which held at the NURTW Ilutitun Branch Motor Park was to forestall break down of law and order among the Drivers Union and to ensure that the existing peace in the area is not hampered.
Adesanya said: “This meeting became necessary due to the intelligence report gathered in the last few days of an impending factional overthrow and counter over throw of the leadership of the union thereby instigating violence.
“It is therefore imperative to let you know that the government would not condone any act capable of jeopardising the existing peace in the Local Government.
“I want to appeal to all aggrieved members to see yourselves as brothers rather than enemies and shun any act capable of promoting violence as the government would not hesitate to proscribe the union activities if your members continue to disturb the existing peace. “
In his own remark, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ilutitun Police Division, Mr. Wole Ogodo appealed to the Drivers Union in their own interest to allow peace to reign.
He warned that anyone found culpable of promoting crisis would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
In their separate contributions, the two factional leaders, Mr Talabi Maperemi and Adewale Adefehinti thanked the Local Government Chairman and the Police Authority for the opportunity given unto them to express their feelings and both promised to abide by terms and conditions of the government.
The two factional leaders were later accompanied by the DPO to the Police Force Area Command, Okitipupa where they both signed an undertaking to maintain peace.
