The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has reaffirmed the globally historic status of the Oduduwa throne, declaring it as the first royal stool in the world.

The revered monarch made this declaration during a special broadcast on Ilaji 91.9 FM radio state in the state

Ooni emphasized that Oduduwa, regarded as the progenitor of the Yoruba people and the first Ooni of Ife, holds the distinction of being the first crowned king ever recorded in human history.

“The throne of Oduduwa is not only foundational to Yoruba royalty but to the very concept of monarchy across the world,” Oba Ogunwusi stated.

During the programme, the Ooni commended Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, for founding Ilaji Radio, describing the platform as a significant tool for preserving and promoting Yoruba culture, values, and traditions on a global scale.

He also offered royal blessings and prayers for the station’s continued growth and relevance, praising it as a beacon for cultural education.

Responding to a question by the show’s anchor, Dr. Ogungbayi, about his deep connection with Ibadan, the Ooni explained that his ancestral ties to the city run deep. He revealed that one of his forebears, the first Ojaja, was a renowned warlord in Ibadan.

The monarch also traced the origin of Lagelu, the legendary founder of Ibadan, back to Ile-Ife, noting that his original name was Agelu. This, he said, underscores the enduring historical and cultural link between the ancient city of Ile-Ife and the metropolis of Ibadan.

The radio broadcast attracted a large listenership and has since been widely praised for its cultural insight and historical depth. Many have described it as a milestone moment in the ongoing efforts to promote Yoruba heritage and identity.
