Former President Olusegun Obasanjo would lead about 10,000 delegates to the 29th Owu National Convention holding between December 4 and 5 at Kuta, Ayedire Local Government in Osun State.
Obasanjo, GCFR, the Balogun Owu, a foremost traditional Owu General, Ogbogbondu, Ebora Owu, and Anlugbua the Second, is the Chief Host for the Convention
The Chairman, Supreme Council of Owu Obas and the Olowu of Kuta, Alayeluwa Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun the Third, is the Royal Host for the Convention,
The delegates would include all the Owu Royal Fathers and Traditional Heads of at least 46 Owu Communities spread across Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos and Kwara States. They would also include the 24 National Executives of the National Union of Owu Royal People, NUORP, led by retired Gen Ekundayo Opaleye, among others.
According to the Chairman, Supreme Council of Owu Obas and the Olowu of Kuta, who is also the Royal Host for the Convention, Alayeluwa Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun the Third, the event would hold under the theme: “Harmony in Owu Polity: A Recipe for National Unity.”
Osun State Governor, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola would be the Special Guest of Honour; the Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Babatunde Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja the Second, the Ooni of Ife, the Royal Guest of the Day; while the Vice-Chancellor of BOWEN University, Iwo, Prof Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole would be the Guest Lecturer.
Oba Oyelude told The Radiance exclusively in his palace that: “We are expecting this year’s Owu National Convention to be a very unique one despite the pandemic that ravaged the country.
“The expected guests would be in the region of 10,000 people. The Governor would be here. The Ooni of Ife would be the Royal Father of the Day. Balogun Owu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo would be present. So it’s going to be fun on December 4 and 5.
“I urge all and sundry to participate. The Guest Lecturer for this year’s Owu National Convention would be the Vice Chancellor of BOWEN University. Our theme this year would be “Harmony in Owu Polity: A Recipe for National Unity.”
“All Owu communities are going to be present and Kuta would be agog. Economically, Owu Kuta would change the face of things for Osun State within those48 hours under review during the Convention.”
According to the Programme, the event would kick off with Jumat Prayer at Kuta Central Mosque on Friday, December 4 when delegates would arrive. Also on this first day, there would be: Visit to Historical Places; Youth Programme; Obas/NEC Meeting; Dinner and Gala Night.
These would be followed on Saturday December 5 with Breakfast; Thanksgiving Service at St Peters African Church, Owu Kuta; Convention Proper; Swearing-in of New RUOP National President and Executives; Cutting of Anniversary Cake; and Departure of Delegates
