The Management of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), has begun investigation into the death of an abducted female youth corp member, Stephanie Terungwa, who was later found dead somewhere in Abuja.
Stephanie, who was serving in Abuja until her abduction, was declared missing on April 14, 2022.
However, NYSC spokesman, Eddy Megwa, announced Terungwa’s passage in a statement on Wednesday, April 28, 2022.
The statement said an investigation has already commenced, adding that those responsible for her death would be brought to book.
It said: “Investigations are, however, currently ongoing to unravel the identity of the perpetrators of the dastardly act in order to bring them to justice. May her soul rest in peace.”
According to the statement, the deceased was found wearing the NYSC khaki trouser with her face “defaced beyond recognition”.
It said: “The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to the pictures making the rounds in the social media of a missing corps member deployed to the federal capital territory, Abuja.”
The statement added: “The corpse was found wearing the NYSC khaki trouser with the face defaced beyond recognition. On account of this, management reported the discovery to relevant security agencies to help identify the body.
“It was later confirmed that the remains was that of a missing Corps Member, Stephanie Se-Ember Terungwa, with State Code Number FC/21B/5807.”
The police had earlier confirmed picking up Stephanie’s corpse found wearing the NYSC khaki trouser with the face defaced beyond recognition in the highbrow Maitama district of Abuja.
Stephanie, a graduate of Microbiology from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, went missing on April 14 after she left home fully dressed in her NYSC uniform. Unfortunately, she did not return alive.
Her death is still being treated as “unexplained.” However, sources at the NYSC headquarters believe that at this stage, there was a third-party involvement.
The NYSC statement had read: “The attention of NYSC management has been drawn to the pictures making the rounds in the social media of a missing corps member deployed to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
