“Iwe yin yii…o po ju owo e lo” meaning”: “This your magazine is worth more than the price.”
That is the confession by a friend after running through the contents of the latest edition of Newspeak Magazine.
My friend, a former senior government official in Oyo State, who I have longed known to value and maximize the use of time, had, on his way to another business, dropped in at a centre where I do a day volunteer work weekly, apparently for a brief stay.
Then, he spotted on the office table a copy of the magazine, which I happily introduced to him.
Somewhere along the short banter and while watching him pick up and flip the pages of the journal, I dozed off…
I honestly didn’t know for how long I must have slept, but I suddenly woke up, surprised to find him still around.
“Ah, you haven’t left?”, I queried.
“Ha, Iwe yin yi Ni o, Mr. Fabowale,” my friend replied and added: “Oun lo detain mi. Mo kan ni ki n glance through e, but, mo find e very interesting! O wa rich gan. Ti n ba ni ki n kan ka a die, a fi igba ti n ba ka a tan; afi bi ma a tun se ri nkan mii to wa captivating. O de digba ti n ba tun ka’yen naa tan… O po’ju owo e lo!”
Translation: “Ha, it’s this your magazine, Mr Fabowale. It’s what has detained me. I just felt like glancing through it, but I find it most interesting. It’s very rich. If I said I should just read a bit of one story, I’m unable to leave until I finish reading it to the end. And to leave after that is difficult as there are other captivating items I found which I must read to the end too… It’s definitely worth more than its cover price!”
His is just one of the many heartwarming endorsements we have got as feedback since the new issue hit the newsstands last week.
A spokesman to one of the governors in the Southwest, who left his table as a senior editor in one of the reputable national dailies, had remarked of a previous edition: “This is, undoubtedly a well packaged magazine, in terms of quality of editorial content, design and printing!”
Say?
All the glory belongs to the Almighty God!
We can only pray for more grace to make it get even better!!
