Barely six hours after throwing the country into darkness, Nigeria’s electricity grid collapsed again at about 6:41 am today.
While the system, managed by Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) initially collapsed at 12:40 am midnight and was in the process of restoration, the grid operated from Osogbo in Osun State went down again at 6:41 am, crashing to 1.60 megawatts.
The grid, which was restored to about 273 megawatts at about 4 am went up to 598:50 megawatts before crashing to 1.60MW as of 7 am.
Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) in a note shared with The Guardian confirmed the double collapse.
According to the company, the development resulted in the loss of supply currently experienced across South East.
“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.
Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh noted.
Yola DisCos, which powers the Northeast equally confirmed the development stating that their feeders are out of supply.
