NANS to hold 84th Senate sitting in Ibadan, Saturday

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will hold its 84th senate sitting at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Saturday.

This was contained in a statement signed by NANS senate president, Akinteye Afeez on Thursday.

According to the statement, the event, which is tagged with the theme “The Role of Students in Maintaining National Peace,” will be held at 10:am from 26th to July 28th, July 2024 while the arrival of delegates for the event is slated for Friday 26th July 2024, with the formal sitting scheduled for Saturday, July 27th, 2024 and departure follows on Sunday, July 28th, 2024.

NANS in the statement noted that the Senate sitting is aimed at providing a platform for discussions and strategic planning on how the group can further contribute to national peace.

It added that the gathering represents a crucial moment for Nigerian students to deliberate on their vital role in fostering and maintaining peace in the nation.

It reiterated its commitment to fostering an environment where Nigerian students can thrive academically and socially.

“Students are pivotal in the quest for national peace. As future leaders, we possess the energy, creativity, and passion to drive positive change.

“Our active involvement in promoting dialogue, understanding, and tolerance is essential in bridging the divides in communities. Through educational initiatives, community service, and advocacy, we can champion the values of peace and unity.

“Education remains a powerful tool in combating ignorance and prejudice, which are often at the root of conflict. By engaging in academic pursuits and extracurricular activities that promote peace, we can influence our peers and communities positively.

“Participation in peace-building activities enriches our educational experience and prepares each other for responsible citizenship.

“Moreover, students play a significant role in holding authorities accountable and ensuring that governance structures are transparent and just.

“By advocating for policies that promote social justice, equity, and inclusivity, we contribute to creating an environment where peace can thrive. Our voices, when united, can drive national conversations toward solutions that address the root causes of unrest.

“The upcoming Senate sitting will provide a platform for robust discussions and strategic planning on how we can further contribute to national peace.
