A makeup artist based in Enugu, Ijeoma Nweke, has been found dead, her face reportedly bathed with acid six days after she went missing.
The deceased, with Instagram handle @wake_n_makeup, was last seen on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, after she left home for a job.
She was reportedly booked for work at an undisclosed location in the Coal City, capital of Enugu, Enugu State, on November 11.
One of her friends said that when the deceased demanded for the address, the customer allegedly asked her to come to EBS bus stop, a popular bus stop in Enugu, from where she would be taken to the client.
On their way, after linking up with the contact person, Ijeoma reportedly suddenly felt uneasy about the arrangement and decided to send her brother a text message, including the phone number of the person who called her for the job.
That was the last time anyone heard from her until her lifeless body was found where it was abandoned in the city on Monday.
When she did not return home after days, her friends took to Twitter to raise alarm and beg for help in finding her.
A day after the missing person’s posts began circulating, she was reportedly found dead around Maryland in Enugu.
It was gathered that Ijeoma could not be reached after some hours, fuelling speculations that she might have been kidnapped.
Her friends and relatives formed a search party but their efforts were futile until yesterday morning when her body was found at Maryland, a suburb of Enugu.
Eyewitnesses said the body appeared to have been bathed in a substance suspected to be acid, leading to its mutilation.
Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe reportedly told The Nation in his office had not received reports of the kidnap or discovery of the body, when he was contacted.
Photographs of a woman’s dead body, believed to be Ijeoma’s are already making the rounds online while there are also reports that her body shows signs she was bathed with acid.
Her elder brother, who later got a discreet text from Ijeoma with the phone number of the person she had gone to see when she probably realised her safety had been compromised, reportedly said that the phone number as well as his sister’s own has been switched off ever since.
The victim’s body was later discovered in another part of the city where she was confirmed dead.
It was learnt that the kidnappers had bathed her with acid and left her to die.
The deceased’s friends are demanding answers and have tagged the Enugu State Police Commissioner and the State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, asking them to probe the incident.
