The maiden edition of the Prof. Emmanuel Adedayo Fasakin’s Inter-School Football competition on Tuesday, ended in favour of the School of Business & Management Studies team with four goals, while their School of Engineering opponent scored no goal.
A statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Mr Sanmi Enigbokan, said that all goals were conceded in the first half.
He said that in his remarks, the rector thanked all sports lovers, staff and students who graced the tournament.
“He appreciated the Polytechnic Community for inaugurating the football competition in his honour, saying that it should be sustained after his tenure.
“He equally appreciated his Management team for their support and cooperation, noting that a tree does not make forest.
“The winning team was later presented with a golden cup after their players had been decorated with medals .
“The 2nd edition is expected to hold in 2024.”
The competition was inaugurated by the Polytechnic on Monday, 5th September, 2022 in appreciation of what Enigbokan described as “the Rector’s Midas touch in the promotion of sports in the Institution, and in recognition of his landmark achievements in the overall development of the young citadel of learning.”
He said in a statement that the football competition, which was kick- started on Tuesday, 6th September, 2022, while other matches followed suit on Monday,12th and Thursday, 15th September, 2022 among the School of Engineering; School of Applied Sciences; and School of Business and Management Studies.
Tuesday’s match, according to Enigbokan, was the grand finale, featuring the team from School of Business and Management Studies facing their counterpart from the School of Engineering at the Polytechnic’s Sports Pitch.
