The Multiple District 404 Nigeria of the International Association of Lions Clubs, has announced the election of a Past District Governor, Olumuyiwa Tokunbo Jegede as the Multiple District Council Chairman for the 2020/2021 Lions Fiscal year.
This was contained in a statement by the SA to the MCC, Lion Olu Akinsiku, NLCF, and sent to The Radiance.
By this election, he assumes office as the Number 1 Lion and Leader of all Lions Clubs and members in Nigeria for one year effective from July 1 2020.
He served as the Pioneer District Governor of Lions Clubs, District 404 A1, in the 2013/2014 Lions year and was the first Lions District Governor to hold office from the clubs in the old Ondo/Ekiti States axis.
Jegede, who is equally the Pioneer and Immediate Past GM/CEO of Ondo State Government owned Orange 94.5 FM Radio Station, Akure, is a pioneer /Charter member of Akure Owena Lions Club, and has held numerous
appointments in the hierarchy of the Lions Clubs in Nigeria since he joined the association 34 years ago.
His sojourn and activities in the Lions Club have taken him to many continents of the world for conferences, conventions and various fora.
Lions Clubs International, founded in 1917 in Illinois, USA, is the world’s largest non-governmental service organization parading membership strength of over 1.4 million spread out in 108 countries and geographical locations, and comprising over 46,000 clubs, about 320 of which are domiciled in Nigeria.
The association has in its over 50 years of existence in Nigeria impacted various communities with programmes and projects.
These include Motherless Babies Home, Lekki; Sagamu Expressway Accident Clinic; Cancer Treatment Center at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Lagos; Eye Comprehensive Center in Osogbo and other Specialist hospital projects in LASUTH, Ede an Abuja among others.
A Dialysis Treatment complex has just been completed in the UNIMED, Akure and handed over to the Ondo State Government.
Further, various communities without portable water have benefitted from the largesse of the Association, ditto for pupils and students in public schools who lacked basic school needs.
Summarily, Lions Clubs all over the world engage in six Cardinal intervention programmes to impact the lives of the less-privileged.
These are Sight Preservation and Awareness, Hunger Relief, Pediatric Cancer, Environmental Degradation, Measles Initiatives and Diabetes Awareness.
