Leke Adegbite sworn in as new NUJ chairman in Ondo

A Radio Nigeria (Positive FM Akure) reporter, Prince Leke Adegbite, has been sworn in as the Chairman of a new executive of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

Adegbite, an Akoko prince, who was until his new elevation, the Secretary of the council, was sworn in with other new executive members to lead the union for the next three years.

Those sworn in with him are the Ondo State correspondent of Nigerian Tribune, Mr Hakeem Gbadamosi, as the Vice Chairman; Publisher of Topshot News Magazine, Mrs Ngozi Aduloju (Assistant Secretary); a reporter with The Hope newspaper, Mrs Fatima Muraina (Treasurer); and Lawani Arinmola (Financial Secretary).

NUJ President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, who was represented by the union’s Vice president, B Zone, Mrs Ronke Afebioye-Samo performed the swearing-in under the supervision of a lawyer, Mr Iyiola Afolabi.

While performing the swearing ceremony, Isiguzo urged the new executive to be magnanimous in victory.

Also, he urged the new Chairman to reach out to all parties and be a leader of all members regardless of who they supported during the electioneering.

In his remark, the Chairman of the state council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC , Comrade Sunday Adeleye, promised that the labour union would continue to support NUJ in all its activities.

In his acceptance speech, Adegbite promised to prioritise welfare and training for all members.

He also promised to reposition the Union to be more enviable and become a union that all members would be proud of.

Highlight of the swearing in ceremony was the reading the oath of office by all members of the new State Executive.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Adegbite and the new executive.

NUJ FRCN chapel in a statement by its chairman, Augustina Okinedo and Secretary, Isaac Afolabi, said “This is to congratulate one of us and our former chapel chairman, Mr Adeleke Adegbite who has been sworn as the new chairman of our great union, Nigeria Union Of Journalists(NUJ) Ondo state chapter.

“This development marks a new achievement for our chapel and it indeed historic.

“We want to be believe that the professionalism and dedication we are known for will be more evident during your tenure.

“We urge you to see all chapels as one, pursue the real ethics of the profession and vigorously work out plans that would standardize the union against quackery, improved welfare for members as well as constant training for members of our union.

“Lastly, as we pray God to grant you and your executive members the needed wisdom in this new tenure, we also urge you to close all ranks for progress.

“Congratulations once again on behalf of Radio Nigeria Positive FM chapel.”

Also in a statement on Friday by the Secretary of their Association, Temitope Adedeji and signed by the Chairman, Hakeem Adebumiti, and titled “Ondo NUJ: Online Media Professionals (OMP) Congratulates Leke Adegbite”, online newspapers’ publishers, reporters and professionals “wishes the new executive a successful stay in office.”

It said: “The Online Media Professionals (OMP) in Ondo State congratulates the newly sworn-in Chairman of the Nigerian Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Mr Leke Adegbite.

“The Association, however, urges the new executive member to be up and doing in discharging their duties as leaders of the pen profession in the State.

“The Online Association prays for wisdom and strength from God for the new leadership, in order to paddle the canoe of the union to an enviable end.

“OMP seizes the opportunity of the occasion to congratulate other members of the executive that were sworn-in alongside Mr Adegbite.”
