The embattled member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said he would always do the right thing even without the approval of President Bola Tinubu.
Obasa said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.
The lawmaker representing Agege Constituency 1 had been removed from office as Speaker of the assembly in January while his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was immediately sworn in as his replacement.
He, however, challenged his removal which was pegged on gross misconduct and financial misappropriation.
According to him, due process was not followed, adding that he was not given the chance to defend himself.
On Thursday, Obasa returned to office as speaker after his security details were restored and those of Meranda temporarily withdrawn.
During his interview on Politics Today, Obasa was asked if he had the backing of the President amid the drama in the assembly.
He said, “The President has more than enough on his table to take care of than to think of the problem of Lagos assembly. But I will always respect him as my father, my leader, and my mentor.
“I will always do that, and I will always continue to be loyal to him. Either he asked me or he did not ask me, I know what is right to be done, and I will continue to do that without his approval. So if anybody wants to read meaning to that, well, good luck.”
Obasa also revealed that he had been a Tinubu loyalist since he left secondary school and was with him from the days of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), adding that his constituency was delivered for the President in the last election.
