Killers of Akure petrol attendant face court

Those who allegedly killed a petrol attendant few weeks ago in Akure, Ondo State capital, have been arraigned at an Akure Chief Magistrate Court.

The accused persons, Emmanuel James 20, Wisdom Richard, 26 and others at large allegedly conspired to rob Farbas Filling Station, Alagbaka and in the process shot an attendant on the leg and another in his forehead which led to his death.

The crime was allegedly committed on June 23, 2020, at about 8:46pm at Farbas Filling Station Alagbaka Akure.

The plea of the accused persons facing a four-count charge were not taken.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons and others still at large on the aforementioned date conspired with one another to commit felony to wit: Armed Robbery, Murder, and unlawful possession of Firearms.

The accused persons were said to have robbed one Ajayi Rasheed of the sum of N90,000.00 and Emmanuel James; killed one Bolakale Abdullahi, one of the attendants of the filling station by shooting him in the head while armed with one English Makarof pistol, one locally made cartridge pistol with 23 round of live ammunition and another one locally made cartridge pistol with eight live cartridge.

The offences committed were contrary section 316 and punishable under sections 1, 2 (a), (b), 3 (1), 6 (a) &(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act Cap RII Law of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and also contrary to section 316 and punishable under Section 319 Cap 37 Vol 1 Law of Ondo State Nigeria 2006.

The police prosecutor, Sgt Onheninhen Augustine, told the court that the accused were notorious and trained armed robbers and that the court should remand them pending the outcome of the DPP’s advise.

Counsel to the accused persons, Barrister E O Owanei was not against the remand of his clients.

The Magistrate ordered that the accused persons should be remanded at the Anti-cultism Custody.

She added that the case file should be transferred to the DPP’s office for legal advice and the case was adjourned to November, 2020.
