Justice Olupitan: Valedictory court session holds amid tears, tributes

Tears flowed freely on Monday at a special court session held in honour of Justice Gilbert Bamidele Olupitan, a Judge in Ondo State Judiciary who died in active service on 11th December, 2019.

He died last Wednesday at the age of 55 years.

In his tribute at the sitting, Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN,described Olupitan’s sudden death of as a monumental loss to the Government  and people of Ondo State, and the Judiciary where he served dutifully within a short period of seven months.

The governor noted with nostalgia the painful exit which he said was a devastating blow to the famous Olupitan family of Ipele, the people of Owo, members of the Bar and the Bench.

He, however, prayed God to grant the deceased father, Distinguished Senator Titus Olupitan; the bereaved wife , Eva Bamidele Olupitan, family members, friends and colleagues, the fortitude to bear the loss of the legal icon.

While delivering her valedictory speech, at the special court session held at the Ondo State High Court, Akure, the state capital, the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Olutoyin Akeredolu described the occasion as the saddest moment of her career as a Judicial Officer.

Justice Akeredolu described the deceased as a humble, hardworking, courageous and knowledgeable jurist who handled his cases with the benign ambiance.

Mr Oladipo Olasope, SAN, delivered the tributes of himself as a childhood friend of the deceased, and that of the NBA Ibadan Branch while Mr David Olabode Adeniji spoke on behalf of all NBA branches in Ondo State.

Also, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adekola Olawoye, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, delivered a soul-comforting speech to calm those who were close to the departed soul.
