The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday released the final list of candidates contesting the 2019 Presidential, Governorship and Senatorial elections nationwide.
It was signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
The list which was published on the commission’s official website, was entitled “Nigeria: General Elections 2019” contains Presidential, Governorship and Senatorial candidates of all the political parties contesting the coming elections.
However, the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, were missing in the final list of the expected 146 Presidential candidates. The party’s slots of numbers 129 and 130 on the list were vacant. They both carried the remark: “Court Order. Party yet to submit name of candidate.”
The commission had earlier in a statement issued on Wednesday said “on the whole, there are 1, 066 candidates for the governorship elections, 14, 583 for the State Assembly elections and 806 for the FCT Area Council elections broken down into 105 Chairmanship candidates and 701 councillorship candidates. “
