Ila Orangun community, the Ila Local Government, Osun State home of the late former Inspector General of Police, IGP Tafa Adebayo Balogun, has begun the search for his replacement in the police.
A statement by the National Public Relations Officer of Ilaparapo, the umbrella body of Ila Orangun indigenes in the diaspora, Bisiola Obaaro, said: “Overwhelmed by the credible performance of the former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Tafa Balogun, who was laid to rest in his home town, Ila Orangun yesterday, leaders and elders of thought in the town have called on sons and daughters of the community to come together and raise another Tafa Balogun amidst them.
“Making the call in a chat, the National President of Egbe Ilaparapo, a conglomerate umbrella body of Ila indigenes in diaspora, who is also the Ejemu of Ila Orangun, Engineer Chief Paul Ogunrinade stressed the need for our sons in the police force and indeed in other para military forces to beam searchlight and get themselves together for the unique purpose of developing the ancient city of Ila Orangun, saying:
“By now, those of them whom Tafa Balogun enlisted must have gotten to an intermediate level where they can contribute to the development of Ila Orangun.
“The town is in dIre need of many things for development – road network, electricity, water supply, transformers and other renovations.
“For example, Ilaparapo is handling the construction of an Area Commander’s office which still needs to gulp about N7.5m to complete. We need our young ones to give their helping hands.”
Obaaro said that Ogunrinade “urged the people to expect a call to a meeting where the execution of such a formidable project will be fine-tuned. This is how to ensure that the efforts and legacies left behind by the late super cop will be sustained.”
The late IGP, who died in a Lagos hospital on Thursday, was buried in Ila Orangun on Saturday, in a ceremony that was graced by a mammoth crowd of people of the community, led by their royal father, who came to pay their last respect to a man they generally described as one who had touched the lives of many of his kinsmen across board.
