The Ijaw National Congress, INC, the umbrella body of the Ijaw ethnic group in the country, has praised Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for appointing their kinsmen into his cabinet.
Apart from the dominant Yoruba ethnic group, the Ijaw ethnic nationality is also indigenous to Ondo State, and they occupy the riverine Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state.
John Paul Akinduro, the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, said in a statement that the INC, through its Akure chapter chairman, Ominidougha Bonsuwe, commended the governor at a meeting in the Governor’s office on Thursday.
Specifically, Bonsuwe thanked the governor for appointing indigenes of the Ese-Odo Local Government Area into his cabinet.
He submitted a list of requests, including road construction, the establishment of the Department of Waterways in the Ministry of Works, and recognition and approval of chieftaincy stools in the local government, among others.
He pledged the support and loyalty of the Ijaw National Congress to the governor and government of Ondo state, saying “We shall continue to be partners in progress”
In his speech, Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects in the state.
Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, he said his government will leave no parts of the state behind in its developmental agenda.
According to him, “We are in government to solve issues and to ensure every resident of our state has a sense of belonging, regardless of his or her socio-economic status or political affiliation”
He assured them that their requests would be looked into and given adequate consideration.
