In a vibrant display of culture and unity, Igbo shop owners and business tycoons across Osun State closed their businesses on Saturday to mark the annual New Yam Festival.
The celebration, which doubled as the Egungun Festival for the Igbo community in the state, drew thousands of participants and spectators to the streets of Osogbo, the state capital.
The heart of the celebration was Freedom Park, Osogbo, which served as the main venue for the event. The park came alive with colourful masquerades (Egungun), traditional music, dancing, and other cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of the Igbo people.
Our correspondent, who visited the scene, reported a festive atmosphere with a strong security presence. Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and operatives of the Amotekun Corps were on ground to ensure order and safety throughout the event.
The streets of Osogbo were lined with jubilant residents, both Igbo and non-Igbo,vwho gathered to witness the energetic masquerade displays and traditional dances that echoed the rhythms of Eastern Nigeria.
Beyond celebration, the event fostered unity and cultural exchange, attracting not just members of the Igbo community, but also a wide range of Osun residents who joined in the festivities with excitement and admiration.
The occasion witnessed fund raising for the development of the Igbos in the state.
