ICT Skills: Ondo Graduates 500 Youths

In its continued drive to ensure that every young person in Ondo state is equipped with the skills required to thrive in the 21st-century economy, the state government has graduated 500 youths trained in various digital competencies.

The month-long training programme, organised by the Ondo State Information Technology Agency (SITA) in collaboration with the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME) and other partners, was held across four centres in the state.

The training focused on key areas including Backend Development, Frontend Development, Python Programming, and Data Analytics, among others.

At the graduation and certificate presentation ceremony held in Akure on Friday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa emphasised the importance of skill acquisition in youth development and crime reduction.

Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising youth empowerment through the acquisition of in-demand digital skills.

According to him, “Our administration remains focused on driving technological advancement and industrial growth as a core component of the “OUR EASE” policy thrust”

He noted that the government has recently established a technology hub at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, while also expanding internet access across the state, including rural communities, through accelerated approvals for telecommunications infrastructure and the deployment of Fibre-to-the-Home connectivity.

The governor commended development partners including GIZ-ZME, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and N-TECH Information Systems for their continued collaboration and support in empowering young people in the state.

In his introductory remarks, the Chairman of SITA, Hon. Tomide Akinribido, praised the governor for creating an enabling environment for youth innovation and capacity building.

He encouraged the graduating students to make productive use of the skills acquired, and remain committed to continuous learning and self-development.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Programmes, GIZ-ZME, Sandra Alonge, reaffirmed her organisation’s commitment to supporting the state government in expanding opportunities for youth development through digital skills training and innovation-driven initiatives.

Alonge further noted that partnerships such as the collaboration with Ondo state demonstrate the impact of sustained investment in young people.

The event was attended by top government functionaries, including the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Henry Omoyofunmi; SSA on Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Yemi Fasipe; SSA on Technical and Vocational Education, Mr. Tayo Oluyi; SSA on Print Media, Mr. Ladi Okunigba; SSA on Youth Empowerment, Mr. Orioye Gbayisemore; GIZ Component Manager, Mr. Ayomikun Olugbode; representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment; and other key stakeholders.
