The Chairman of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Princess Oladunni Odu has warned all the contractors handling projects under the 2013/2014/2015 and 2016 SUBEB/UBEC projects that the commission would not take any job that is sub standard.

She gave the warning at the inaugural meeting organised for the distribution of letters of award to the successful contractors of the project, saying the state government has been magnanimous by providing the counterpart fund to work with.

She assured of her readiness to ensure that all contractors abide by the rules and regulations guiding the project.

Princess Odu informed them that there are some vendors who have been designated for the purchase of quality building materials for the project and enjoined them to patronise them in order to ensure strict compliance with the guidelines.

She warned that any contractor who goes against the norm of the project would face the consequence.

The SUBEB boss therefore advised the contractors to move to sites immediately they get their letters of award of contract in order to be able to meet the six months project deadline. She said that only 15 percent mobilisation fund would be provided in line with UBEC guidelines but they should look for money to complete the project so that their work can be evaluated early.

Princess Odu assured them that there would be prompt payment of the remaining fund after the completion of the project.

She also assured that she and the staff, including the Permanent Secretary and the Directors of the board would move around the 519 projects for thorough supervision in the 18 local government areas of the state.

She pleaded with the contractors to keep to specifications during the implementation of the projects, saying it is their children or those of their relatives who would use the schools being built.

She said that in four months of her assumption in office, Ondo SUBEB which used to be in the last position in the federation has jumped to the fourth position as a result of the commitment of the Governor to primary school education.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mrs Olufunmilayo Oni had appreciated the effort of the Governor in upgrading all primary schools in the state, saying the board is for serious business and everyone is going to work assiduously.

Responding on behalf of others, one of the contractors, Mr. Jide Akintade while receiving his letter of award of contract, thanked the Governor and the management of the board for the opportunity given them to work and promised that they would not disappoint the government.
