It was a replay of an horror film on Wednesday when a mentally ill man allegedly hacked his three siblings to death at New Site, Doctor Road, Okitipupa, headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly happened at about 8.30 a.m when the suspect, aged 28, who is already arrested by the police, allegedly struck his three siblings with a machete leading to their death.
Already, Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Abayomi Jimoh, has confirned the incident in a statement, naming the deceased as Bose Agbeye, 20; Dupe Agbeye, 7, and Blessing Agbeye, aged 5, all of the same family.
He said the father of the suspect reported the incident at the Okitipupa Area Command of the Nigeria Police, Okitipupa.
The statement said, “Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Command swiftly mobilised to the scene, where the victims were found lifeless. Their remains were evacuated and deposited at the State Specialist Hospital Morgue, Okitipupa, for preservation and autopsy.
“In a prompt and coordinated operation, the suspect was apprehended on the same day and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the heinous act and assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently.
“He also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations.
“He reiterated the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and warns against all forms of violence within the society.”
Jimoh also confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old suspect in connection with the tragic killing of three siblings.
According to the statement, the case was reported by Mr. Agbeye of New Site, Doctors Road, Okitipupa, who reportedly informed the police that his son allegedly attacked his three siblings in his absence.
The three victims were found lifeless at the scene when police operatives arrived. Their remains were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Okitipupa for preservation and autopsy.
Police authorities disclosed that officers responded swiftly to the report, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect on the same day. He is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
