Suspected gunmen have reportedly abducted two residents of Ora-Igbomina, an Osun State community located along the boundary with Kwara State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the area

The assailants reportedly struck at a private residence along Aran-Orin Road, Papa area of Ora-Igbomina, a few minutes before forcefully whisking the victims away into the bush.

The latest abduction comes less than two months after a former Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was kidnapped in the same community by suspected bandits.

Residents recalled that on December 15, 2025, gunmen attacked Ora-Igbomina and abducted Owolabi in front of his residence. He was later released on January 12, 2026, at Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, after the payment of ransom.

A resident of the community, who identified herself simply as Mulikat, told journalists that the gunmen abducted the victims after shooting sporadic shots to scare residents.

“We heard gunshots, the gunmen went into a house along Aran-Orin Road and picked two men. Some residents attempted to chase them, but they could not follow them into the bush. The abductors are suspected to be bandits,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command had launched a search-and-rescue operation to secure the release of the victims.

He said the unfortunate incident occurred midnight on Mondsy and the police already trailing the suspects.

“Our men were on patrol but had to return to their base when heavy rain started. It was during that period that the criminals carried out the attack,” Ojelabi said.

He identified the abducted persons as Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, adding that security operatives immediately mobilised to the area after receiving the report.

“The search-and-rescue teams have been deployed and are currently combing the surrounding bushes and border areas,” the police spokesperson added.

Residents of Ora-Igbomina have continued to express fears over repeated attacks, particularly due to the community’s proximity to the Osun–Kwara boundary, which they say has made it vulnerable to criminal activities.
