At least, 73 stolen vehicles were recovered last year through the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Portal, by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
The Corps’ Public Education Officer, at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja, Olusegun Ogungbemide, disclosed this in a statement in Osogbo, where he highlighted the agency’s success in tackling vehicle theft nationwide.
He said the commission had dealt a major blow to car thieves and other criminal elements operating in Nigeria, recovering an unprecedented number of stolen vehicles across the country.
To him, the achievement is a testament to the FRSC’s commitment to enhancing national security, strengthening intelligence gathering and sharing, and ensuring the safety of lives and properties of road users.
He said the vehicles were recovered through coordinated, intelligence-driven operations conducted by the FRSC in collaboration with other security agencies, particularly at the point of registration of the suspected stolen vehicles.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended FRSC personnel for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty. He reiterated that the agency would continue to implement swift response and proactive measures to curb vehicle theft and protect both lives and the economic interests of Nigerians.
He urged vehicle owners to ensure they provide accurate and complete information during the registration process, as this is crucial for intelligence gathering and the timely recovery of stolen vehicles.
Mohammed also reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to making Nigerian roads safer and more secure for all users, calling on the public to support the Corps in its mission for safer roads and effective crime prevention.
“As the FRSC continues to push the boundaries of excellence in road safety management and crime prevention, Nigerians can be assured of a safer and more secure motoring environment,” he added.
