Residents of Igbobini and Ilu Agbo in Ese Odo Local Government Area are currently taking refuge at the RCM Primary School, Ilu Agbo following the two-day heavy downpour in the area.
The communities were submerged alongside hundreds of animals and pets, while fish pond business owners also count losses.
The Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government Mrs. Sipasi Aluko who went for on-the-spot assessment in a canoe visited the two communities and appealed to both the Ondo State and Federal Governments to urgently come to the aid of the residents.
She called on all the concerned authorities and well-meaning Nigerians both within and in far away places, enjoining them to render assistance to ameliorate the sufferings of the affected residents.
In a related development, the embarkment linking Ese-Odo-Irele on land with Araromi Ayeka Okitipupa has been submerged cutting away the areas from the rest of Ondo State.
The concrete cement embarkment that was constructed during the Dr. Olusegun Agagu administration remains the only route on land linking Ese-Odo and Irele with Okitipupa local Governments.
Many travelers who could not go through the long distance of Ode Irele Olowo road are stranded as some risk the use of canoes to cross over.
A resident, Chief Olafusi Olaluwoye, who spoke with our correspondent, appealed to the Akeredolu-led administration to revisit the embarkment contract and extend the construction of the Araromi Ayeka bridge to the terminal end at Ode Irele.
