The Federal Controller Of Works in Osun State, Engr. Orisaleye Ayodeji has promised that flooding will soon be brought to an end in Ikire and other parts of Osun State.
He vowed that all relevant stakeholders at the state and federal levels will put their thinking caps together to arrest the menace of floods in the state generally.
Ayodeji spoke when he led a Federal Government delegation in conjunction with the contractor handling the Ibadan/Ìfẹ/Ilesa Express Road on a joint inspection visit to the popular Naira and Kobo junction which got flooded over the weekend as a result of heavy rain.
Also, Osun State Government said that it is not going to leave any stone unturned in finding a lasting solution to the perennial flood disasters that usually wreak havoc at the Naira and Kobo junction in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government area.
The state’s Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Dr. Bashiru Salami; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bello Idowu; and his counterpart for the Environment, Mr. Oladele Olawuni, led the state’s team.
Both the state and federal government teams carried out an assessment analysis of the extent of the flooded area with a view to knowing the causes as well as finding lasting solutions to such natural disasters.
Speaking during the inspection, Salami observed that there is a need to improve the drainage system so as to create a free flow of rain waters from the hinterlands to the adjoining rivers and streams in the Ikire axis.
He called for a strong synergy between relevant agencies of government in the state for a lasting solution to the problems of flooding being encountered in other parts of Osun state in recent times.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bello announced that to stop the incessant floods and other flood-related menaces in Ikire,
Governor Ademola Adeleke had directed all agencies of government in the state to rise up to the challenge in order to find a lasting solution to the problems.
He said the state Ministry of Works is currently in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment to ensure that river channels are properly dredged and all waterways cleared.
