The continued seizure of Osun State local governments funds by the Federal Government is not just financial oppression, but a deliberate attack on the future of her children, and the state’s development, according to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Pointedly, the party accused the Federal Government of wickedly stalling critical development projects in the state by withholding local government allocations for the past five months.
In a statement by its state spokesman, Oladele Bamiji, PDP also linked the delay in teachers’recruitment to the seized funds, which it described as a clear violation of subsisting court orders.
It queried, “What crime have Osun people committed to warrant the illegal seizure of their entitlements?”
To the party, “This is not just financial oppression — it is an attack on the development of our state and the future of our children.”
It said the PDP-controlled state government was on the verge of issuing employment letters to newly recruited teachers when the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government abruptly halted the disbursement of local government funds to Osun.
According to PDP, “The APC-led Federal Government is using the illegal withholding of Osun’s allocations as a failed strategy to sabotage Governor Adeleke’s administration and frustrate major developmental projects, including the recruitment of new teacher.”
Reacting to the APC criticism over the recent deployment of ad-hoc teachers in the state, the PDP defended the initiative, describing it as a necessary stop-gap measure to address the current shortage of teaching staff in schools.
It said, “The deployed ad-hoc teachers were properly trained and are working under the supervision of experienced educators. This measure is temporary, pending full recruitment once the financial blockade is lifted.”
PDP further called on the Federal Government to immediately release all withheld funds to enable the state government fulfill its obligations, particularly in the education sector.
The party warned that the APC would face the political consequences of its actions in the forthcoming 2026 governorship election.
“Osun people are aware of the sabotage, and they will not forget.
“Next year August, they will defend their votes and stand by the PDP in the face of this unjust treatment.”
