The education policy of the Kayode Fayemi administration in Ekiti State has made a remarkable improvement in school enrollment and other areas in the sector, according to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Foluso Daramola.
The improvement has so dazzled the Yobe State Government, which has resolved to replicate the Ekiti model.
Particularly, Daramola said that the Executive Order 001 issued by Fayemi in 2018 and other novel policies introduced by the administration in the education sector have led to a remarkable improvement in enrollment activities in Public Schools across the state in the new academic session.
The Commissioner, who made this known in Ado-Ekiti, while hosting members of the Yobe State Policy Strategy/Steering Committee on the Revitalization of Basic and secondary Education, stated that various steps taken by the State Government had brought tremendous positive changes to the Education Sector.
He disclosed that the State Government will soon embark on renovation of both Primary and Secondary Schools in the state to make teaching and learning more conducive.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Fayemi-led government within one year in office had injected huge funds into the sector and has put Ekiti State in the global map of education.
Daramola informed the visiting team that government will accord more priority to the Education Sector in order to restore the lost glories of the Ekiti among the comity of states in Nigeria.
The Commissioner highlighted the achievements recorded so far in the Education Sector within twelve months of the current administration in the Ekiti State to include abolition of all levies and taxes introduced by the immediate past administration in Public Schools.
They also include payment of the 2018/2019 WAEC registration fees for the entire 13,390 SS3 pupils in Public Secondary Schools in the state; and procurement and distribution of over 3,000 free JAMB forms to indigenes of the state with six credit passes in WAEC and NECO public examinations.
He further disclosed that the State Government is ready to give technical support to Yobe State Government in its quest to reposition its Education Sector.
Earlier in his address, the leader of the team and former Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Prof Mala Daura, who is also the Chairman of the Yobe State Policy Strategy/ Steering Committee on the Revitalisation of Basic and Secondary Education, said that the Governor of his State, Mai Mala Buni, has declared a State of Emergency on Education sector.
