Farmers at Ipogun, in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State have accused herdsmen who grazed with their cows of destroying the farms worth over N10 million.
They have petitioned the security agencies including the Ondo State Amotekun Corps Commander, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene to avert possible clashes.
The farmers, in their petition, alleged that the herders on Saturday and Sunday 5th and 6th July, 2025 took their livestock especially cows to theor farms located at Oke Ose Ipogun in Ifedore Local Government area and destroyed maize, cassava, plantain, vegetables, and yams among other crops planted in large commercial quantity.
In the letter dated 10th July, 2025, the farmers regretted that despite writing protest letters to seek the intervention of security operatives to ensure compensation is paid to the affected farm owners, no action was taken to arrest the suspected herders.
They called on the Amotekun Corps to urgently intervene to prevent herdsmen/farmers clashes at Oke Ose, Ipogun in Ifedore council area.
One of the farmers, Mr Tunde Fawoyi, who spoke on behalf of the affected farmers, described the situation as unacceptable and devastating considering time, human and financial resources invested on the farms.
Fawoyi who confirmed the protest letter, also called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to intervene to prevent unnecessary conflict or further destruction of farms at Ipogun farm settlements.
The farmers said in the letter titled “RE : DESTRUCTION OF CROPS ON OUR FARM:
“We are writing to report an incident of destruction of crops on our Farm
located at Oke Ose Ipogun in Ifedore Local Government on Saturday and Sunday (5th and 6th July, 2025).
“Our farm was visited by herdsmen who allowed their livestock to graze on our crops, resulting in significant damage.
“The crops destroyed include maize cassava, plantain, vegetables, yams, e.t.c. This destruction has resulted in substantial financial losses for our farm and has affected our livelihood.
“We urge you to investigate this incident and take necessary actions to prevent such reccurrence and ensure perpetrators are arrested and made to pay compensation.
“We also request your assistance in ensuring that our farm is protected from further destruction. The pictures are attached to this letter for evidence.
“We would appreciate any support or guidance you can provide in this matter.”
Also another farmer, Adefila Solomon Adebayo said the estimate of crops destroyed is more than #20 million, appealing for compensation from the herders through the government.
