Fagbemi lifts alma mater, gives scholarship to 5 indigent students

Ondo State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative Services, Hon. Omolola Fagbemi has initiated a scholarship scheme and given scholarship to five indigent students of her alma mater, Independence Grammar School, Ondo City .

A statement by the ministry’s spokesman, Mr Bisi Agboola, said that the scholarship, to be tagged ”Lola Fagbemi Scholarship Scheme” is expected to run for a five year term in the first instance.

The statement said: “Hon Fagbemi who spoke at the 60th founders’ day anniversary of Independence Grammar School, Ondo City, described her alma mater as a school full with remarkable history .

“Fagbemi recalled her years in the school when studies and sports were combined. Honorable Fagbemi was the senior prefect girl in her 1976\77 final year, the year she described as very remarkable.

“The commissioner said even as Ondo State government operates free education system, some parents still found it extremely difficult to provide basic needs for their wards.

“She said her scholarship will cater for provision of basic textbooks, uniforms and school sandals to be monetized The school authority is expected to identify the indigent beneficiaries.

“Honourable Fagbemi also identified with Blue house which came first in the match past during the inter house sports competition.

‘Earlier in his welcome address, principal of the school, Mr. Alaba Omoniyi commended the various supports from old students such as sinking of boreholes, repairs to school buildings as well as other beautification projects.

Friends of the school who accompanied Mrs Fagbemi include the commissioner for environment, Hon.Sunday Akinwalere; Special adviser to the governor on education, Dr. Ilawole and Special adviser on Gender, Chief Mrs Falana.
