Onowu and Regent of Abagana, and former Presidential aspirant, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze has described the establishment of state police as the best way to tackle the escalating insecurity rocking Nigeria, a solution he has been agitating for long.
He praised the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu for inaugurating the steering committee for the establishment of state police in each of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
In a statement on Thursday by his Director General, Comrade Eric Oluwole, Anakwenze said that the new police boss deserves a special commendation of all well meaning Nigerians and friends of the country for taking a major step towards the state police establishment as his first action in office.
The new Inspector General of Police who was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, had shortly after the ceremony sworn in a nine member steering committee to carry out the necessary preliminary work on the establishment of state police.
Anakwenze saw the prompt manner Disu responds to the planned establishment of state police demonstrates the seriousness of the Tinubu administration to meaningful efforts to curb the insecurity problems that for years have been confronting the country.
According to the former presidential aspirant who also is the Igbo World Assembly Chairman: “The new Inspector General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu deserves the commendation and support of all well meaning Nigerians and friends of our Country for taking the bold step in setting up the steering committee for the establishment of state police immediately he was sworn into office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“In fact, the action of the new Inspector General of Police portrays him as the man that President Tinubu needs to help him execute his noble project of putting in place a security architecture that will protect all Nigerians from bandits, armed robbers, gunmen, and kudnapers for hefty ransom among other criminals, who, for years, had laid siege on our motherland, and who have been operating recklessly unleashing bloodshed and sorrow on our helpless people across the country.
*Heartily, I commend the new Inspector General of Policee, Mr Tunji Disu for identifying strongly with the generality of Nigerians and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over this insecurity problem, and taking a proactive step in his first day in office to actualise the president’s plan to provide adequate security for all our people, and make our land safe for habitation, investment, and development.
“I hereby call on the Senate and the House of Representatives, indeed the entire National Assembly to expedite action on amending the relevant sections of the Constitution to accommodate the state police and make our Country a safe haven for all residents and visitors.”
