Ex-PDP presidential aspirant Anakwenze condemns attack on Soludo’s hometown, charges Buhari to rejig nation’s security agencies

A former Presidential Aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has condemned Saturday’s attack by gunmen of security men at a checkpoint at Umuona, Isuofia, in Aguata Local Government Area, the hometown of Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo.

In a statement by the Director General, Anakwenze Campaign Organization (ACO), Comrade Eric Oluwole on Monday, Anakwenze who is one of Anambra State stakeholders and the Onuwu of Abagana town, Anambra state “strongly condemns the attack.”

In the Isuofia attack, five of the gunmen were killed as they ambushed a security checkpoint in the town during which they engaged security men in a fierce battle.

Confirming the incident, the state command police spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said in a statement on Saturday that the Anambra State Security Forces comprising of the Military, Police, and other security agencies neutralised five unknown gunmen in Umuona, Isuofia, Aguata LGA, Anambra State, and recovered one grey Toyota Venza jeep marked KRD 344 BT.

According to the statement: “This followed a distress call at about 10:30 am today 12/11/2022 along Afor Market in Isuofia, where some hoodlums, attacked a security checkpoint in the area.

“The Joint Forces from FOB Aguata responded swiftly, engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, and neutralised five of the armed men while others escaped with dark blue Lexus 470 jeep without plate number from the scene with bullet wounds.”

Anakwenze also described the attack, which came on the heels of another attack on the convoy of a former Vice President and PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Borno State, as disturbing and saddening.

Therefore, he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reorganise Nigeria’s security agencies in such a way that they will be able to redress the worrisome security challenges across the land, and fashion out more effective security strategies to protect the nation especially as the country approaches the 2023 election.

Quoting Anakwenze, the statement said: “I could remember during my presidential consultations to many Nigerian stakeholders, our main discussion was Nigeria’s security, because the issue has been affecting our economy and fencing off some foreign investors, especially Nigerian citizens abroad.”

Anakwenze also called on the leaders and members of his party to close ranks and be united in the campaign to win the February 25, 2023 Presidential Election to give Nigeria a new lease of life.
