Ex envoy and a former Ondo South senatorial aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ambassador Sola Iji, has faulted the results of the just concluded party’s senatorial primary in the district, which he said did not truly represent popular wish.

While reacting to the results on Monday in a statement by the Director General of Ambassador Sola Iji Campaign Organisation, ASICO., Onibudo ‘Wole Iroaye, he said: “It must be put on record that the results that came out from the primary did not in any way reflect the strident and dogged efforts of our Campaign Organization and the expectations of the members of the party and the general public with regard to the outcome of our participation in the process.

“The process no doubt witnessed some apparent manipulations, coercion and intimidation by government which left the delegates in a state of fait accompli in their choice of candidate.

“Notwithstanding this, we accept the result as declared and remain loyal party members.

“Consequently, H.E., Ambassador Sola Iji, ASI., congratulates Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, the winner of the Senatorial District’s primary, on his victory.”

Iji said that as a loyal party man, who helped to build the party from inception as the Ondo State’s Chairman of AD., AC., and ACN., which was one of the legacy parties that formed the APC., he and his supporters would work vigorously for the party’s victory in the district in the Senatorial election as well as House of Representatives and State Assembly elections in the 2023 general elections.

He thanked his campaign organisation, coordinators and supporters across the six local government areas of the district for their “commendable efforts” at working towards his success at the just concluded primary. Besides, he expressed his deep appreciation to them for believing in him.

According to the statement: “Ambassador Sola lji Campaign Organisation, ASICO, on behalf of His Excellency, Ambassador Sola Iji, wishes to thank the Almighty God for granting us the enablement to participate in the just concluded Ondo South Senatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Our profuse gratitude goes to the entire leadership of ASICO including our esteemed Coordinators at the Local Government and Ward levels for the industry, hard work and commitment demonstrated.

“Our gratitude goes to all those who believed in our cause and provided the needed support to commute the project to the point of the primary.

“We note that despite everything, the contest was among brothers and a winner has emerged. The task at hand now is herculean and demands an unflinching support from all party patriots.

“For us, this is the time to collaborate and work harder. In this, we shall surely find the recipe for victory at the general election.

“We thank you all and God bless.”
